Deep River has been twenty years in the making. It started with my own search, as a teen, for spiritual arrangements that matched the reverence and joy I heard in this music. What began as a backyard performance for friends and family grew into something bigger: a night of music paired with the stories behind it, the history, the resilience, and the lasting mark the Negro Spiritual has left on American culture.

I bring decades of experience to this show, including seventeen seasons with the San Francisco Opera Chorus and years directing choral programs across the Bay Area. But at its heart, Deep River is personal. It's a way to share this music's legacy with communities who want to celebrate it too.
